UNOCH
Member’s Meeting Minutes
September 4, 2007

1. Introduction of new officers- UNOCH is pleased to introduce Maureen McHale as the new UNOCH advocate. Maureen recently served on the tech negotiating committee. She is an RRT who works on the PICU CHET team. Lana O’Quinn is our new health benefits liaison. She is an RN in the PACU; Lana is also training to be a Certified Representative. Lana is in her office two days a week and can help employees walk through the maze of healthcare benefits. Her office extension is 6194. Lora Keleman is our new board member @large. Lora is a night shift RN from the PICU. She will be assisting the board in a variety of duties and is training to do new member orientations and to be a Certified Representative.

2. Robert Braithwaite- new VP of HR- Robert told us a little bit about his background. He most recently worked at Hoage Hospital in Orange County. He reviewed some of the larger problems at Rady’s now and outlined some of the ways that he intends to help turn the hospital into an “employer of choice.” He is working closely with Kathleen Sellick to first listen to what the employees have to say and to formulate a plan for change.  He has been impressed by the employee’s commitment to Children’s and our willingness to stay and work out problems.  He is looking at having the upper management be more accessible to managers and employees. They also want to create more consistent and easily available policies.  They are increasing the budget for education and are looking to bring outside educators here so that more people can benefit rather than sending one manager to a conference. They are looking at making HR paperless; reducing the time it takes for potential new hires to be contacted and on going to an electronic time card system. He also expressed a desire to decrease the number of travelers that we are using and replace them with core staff.  Robert took questions and comments from the members present and requested patience as he is still in the learning phase and will start implementing changes over the next year.

3. Review/ Questions Technical division contract- Due to time constraints we did not get to review the contract. Members encouraged to call the UNOCH office if they had questions.
